Default Cam sensor

Well it has been running fine for the last three days. Drove it today and as we were backing into a parking space the engine died. I replaced the Cam sensor but it still does not start. I really am frustrated, I was hoping that would be it. I took the old questionable sensor and placed it in my 92 SSEi and it started right up without a hickup. Any one have any more suggestions short a stick of TNT?

After going to the local Pontiac dealer and discussing the issue with one of the service writers he tends to think it may be a fuel shutoff situation once again related to the VATS system. A new switch/lock/tumbler is available out of Reno or the midwest for $83.00 or Autozone for $34.00. Since I only have 1 key for the car and that is the only thing that hasn't been replaced that'* the direction I'm headed. I know there is a bypass fix that I should probably try first so I'll see what comes of this. Thanks for the encouragement! At $96.00 an hour for Dealer trouble shooting I figure this to be the last shot.

392,

I just feel/think you should give that darn vats bypass a try....what else is there to go with?? man, the money and time and effort you have expended so far.....i am pullin for you down here in texas ...keep us posted!!! Plus the heads at the speed shop all said it sounds like a vats issue or the car is an "Evil christine" type situation!! I know lame but sounds like you need some humor....best of luck.

I think it will be finally fixed! Been awhile since last post, Turns out it should be the ignition switch. Took off the steering wheel, first thing I saw was a broken wire, pulled the harness out six inches down the harness in the column was another break and arching on the column causing an additional short which drained the battery in 3 days. At the end the wires were three wire strands from breaking. Have new switch $35.00 @ Autozone new VATS key $13.00 EBAY. Me thinks we'll have sucess! Will report back. Have a couple of pics of the take apart but no place to post.

Talking

Finally can report a true fix. The switch was it. Starts every time now with no hesitation, security light is out. Having to replace switch wasn't bad, turnsignal switch and dimmer switch also broken so in for 1 in for all. Good thing I had a spare parts car. Bottom line Wife is happy again she can use her baby.

Default NOW it is finally fixed

My problems have been resolved. A few weeks have passed, ingnition was definitly bad as stated earlier, after replaced worked for a few days then stopped, tried the bypass (key), worked a few days then........Took to shop with a amachine for them to monitor, would never not start! Finally it stopped and the problem was traced to an intermittent crank sensor!!!!!! REPLACED it last saturday, made sure it was spaced with the correct air gap .030. It has worked perfectly ever since. Even though it was replaced previously I overlooked it. CAUTION don't overlook yourself. Cause of battery shorting and draining out was due to water in the rear turn signal. Man I am done for awhile!
BIG thanks again to Bonneville forum for your tips and tricks
