Default 96 Se LIM UIM Questions?

First of all I want to say I am so thankful I found this forum. I have spent almost all day reading the posts.

A few weeks ago I purchased a 96 SE and have been working to get it into shape.
It has 135,000 miles on it.
I fixed the wiper linkages, I tracked down a strange instrument panel problem, that was caused by the Headlight switch assembly and replaced that switch and the turn signal indicator bulb. I also tracked down a water leak in the door and fixed that.
Now I am about to repair the UIM and LIM issues.

I have a Dorman Kit. Should I return it and purchase a APN kit?
I purchased the GM aluminum LIM gasket.

Are there detailed instructions availabe anywhere for this repair?

Regards,
James

OK,when the last owner of this site switched to vBulletin, he made a bobo. A huge one. If the article mentioned by Dan was in tech info, it'* in limbo for the moment. Use the site search engine and put in "LIM replacement" and quite a few threads will come up with info and pictures. I tried to crossreference the number Dan sent me but that came up with nil. The mishap didnt retain the original article numbers and just changing the the addy to "bonnevilleforum' doesnt help. If I had the thread name or the author of the thread, it would be easier to pin down.

I am not sure how to find all the info you wanted, but here is a post by Bill Buttermore that references a tech article.

It does not (as far as I can tell) provide a sleeve to act as a heat shield in the EGR bore, and does not provide reduced diameter stovepipes to provide an insulating air gap between the hot EGR stovepipe and the vulnerable plastic EGR bore. These are included in the APN UIM kit described and recommended in the Techinfo article here: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...e=article&k=38

The APN kit costs $10 more than the zz UIM, but provides critical protection that is well worth it. Also, APN will ship to almost any US address for $15.

The next best fix is the Dorman replacement UIM because even though it does NOT have a sleeve in the UIM EGR bore it DOES come with a reduced diameter stovepipe that will provide a large air gap between the hot pipe and the plastic EGR bore. Dormans are available at most aftermarket parts houses and sell for $135 to $160.

The aluminum frame gaskets are available from GM dealers who may tell you based on their computer that they will not fit your older L36 engine - don't worry, they will. They are also available from Intense, iirc. Best to call around to get the best price on these - all GM dealers do not charge the same - prices range from $59 - $90. (Someone has to pay for the free coffee and doughnuts in the customer lounge!)

I found the links to the tech article for the LIM UIM issues

They are a great tool.

Email me for the link it won't take in the post for some reason.

Regards,

James
