Default 1996 SSEi will intermittently not start

Hello all!!
My Bonne will not start. No click, no noise at all. Lights on in car, battery checks out. Cleaned up battery terminals and reinstalled.
Still not starting - weird thing is it is intermittent.
If I let the car sit - and try later - it starts with much power.
Any ideas??
Thanks!!!!!

When it actually does start has it thrown a code?

Does your ignition key have a chip in it? factory security systems changed a lot but this sounds like the culprit. If you see a flashing security light, it won't start while flashing and it will flash until several minutes after your last attempt to start. Check to see if your key has a slight bend in it, if so then straighten it. Also check that the contacts on the resistor chip are clean. Otherwise, this is your warning that your ignition switch is going out. When it does finally go out the security light will come on solid and stay on solid for several minutes. At this point your car is DOA and will need a new switch (or a resistor pack). Your newer car may have a different system in it but the basic principles are the same. The security system thinks the car is being hotwired and disables the starter and fuel injection system for several minutes.

How is it not starting? If you have the lights on and try to start it, the lights don't dim slightly, and there is dead silence? Then its related to the key chip, or the neutral engage thingy on your shifter. (sorry, thingy isn't a word, but its the best I could do without my FSM.) The circuit is not open to start the car.

I'm betting your chip is either grunged or out of line because the key is bent a little. The neutral engage sometimes becomes a problem if the shifter is a console shift and the button is stuck in the leather cover.

I am having a similar problem with my 92 SSEi. It just happened out of the blue one morning when I went to start her up. The Security Light keeps flashing and the car just cranks with no start. I tried cleaning the chip in the key, and I even went to the dealership and bought a new key - still nothing. Strange thing is, I do have an aftermarket alarm and remote starter so the VATS should have already been bypassed. Is has to be something with the Security light flashing....but what??
