I just bought a 96 Bonneville for my son. It'* always been garaged and in excellent shape overall with 111K miles.
the only problem is the A/C compressor makes a metallic scaping noise when not engaged. I thought it was the tensioner pulley going bad at first but when I looked closer I found the A/C compressor to be the culprit.
Once I turned the motor off and moved the A/C clutch with my hand it the noise seems to be coming from the clutch itself. Kind of like the internal clutch part is scraping the outward part.
Is there something there I can fix without having to replace the hole comrpessor?

Welcome to Bonneville Club. You can replace the worn clutch parts yourself but iirc, you may need some special tools. Another option is to replace the compressor with one from a junkyard, or buy a rebuilt. Here is a good source for parts: http://www.rockauto.com
