Default 1996 A/C clutch not engaging

1996 SE A/C clutch is not engaging. I check the pressure and it was alittle low. I put in about 1/4 can and pressure was up to 40ish and did not help. I have checked the fuses and the relay and they are good. The system was working this past summer. I did have to add one can of coolant.

What is next for trouble shooting this problem?
I'm somewhat electrically impaired so please speak laymans terms.

Thanks

Where are you located?

The AC system does not work under 55 degrees.

The clutch won't engage even on defrost?
Its was about 40 today but I was in the garage with the door
up some so was probably 50 -60 inside.

Hard to tell what your AC system was reading for operating temp at that time.

I'll never hear mine work until spring.......

It may be 50-60 outside...but the actual temp sensor in the system may not allow the clutch to engage until it'* physically 55 degrees or higher.

The system consists of may items. If the pressure switch is bad, a clog in the system, bad compressor etc etc. it won't kick on. It'* tough to say why it won't at the moment, but like Todd mentions, it may be a little cold to come on.
