Question 1995 Bonneville with compressor problems

95 Bonnie, went to check my air and get it ready for the weekend, and i notice my compressor hasnt been kickn in. Usually if its runnin and i open the hood you can see when the compressor engaeges and disengages. so i figured ill unplug the pigtail and test for voltage. didnt receive any voltage with car runnin or just n the run posistion. so does anyone no which relays are which under thge hood near firewall ? really gonna need it with this 90 degree fathers day their predicting, and i have leather !!

How are you sure the compressor is bad? Keep in mind the AC system will also not turn on if the pressure is too low, or if the orifice tube is clogged (I've had it happen). If the pressure in the system is too low, the compressor won't start to protect itself from burning up.

you cant take that as gospel, you need to check the pressure, it probably had a slow leak. my car has had a leak ive been trying to track down for a while. you can fill it in spring, use it all summer and the first time you go to use it in the spring again it will be gone.

I moved your thread into the Bonneville Mechanical & Maintenance section. More of us Bonneville fans should see it now.

What are you getting out of the vents? If it'* blowing hot air, that can mean that your A/C system is overcharged.

If the 95 is similar in design to the 93, I just finished replacing my compressor and converting over to R134a. My 93 has a pressure switch located on the accumulator. Unplug the switch and jump it with a paper clip. On the 93 this kicks in the 2nd cooling fan and the compressor (if no fuses are blown elsewhere). If the compressor kicks in while jumped, it'* low on refrigerant and will require a charge. If it doesn't kick in, start checking all the fuses and connectors. What I discovered after replacing my compressor and it not turning on when jumping the switch was that the 93 has an auxillary fuse panel under the glove box. I found a fuse in there that was a 15 amp fuse and was marked 'misc eng. controls' and it was blown. It controlled the a/c compressor, the cruise control and I thibk the OBD1 port. Check your owners manual under the fuse section and see if you have the 2nd fuse panel. Hope this helps ya.
