Hello -

I've a 94 Bonneville SSE (Approx 100K miles), which recently began the following:

Starts fine, go somewhere, park. Get back in - try to start - no luck. Motor cranks fine, believe it'* getting fuel OK (Occassionally will backfire when attempting to start).

Since it backfires, I'm also guessing it'* getting spark.

Let it sit for 4 hours or so, starts fine and all is good until the next trip.

No Service engine or security lights lit. My inclination is to take er in for a tune up, new plugs, new wires, etc. Just thought I'd post here for anything else to consider.

Do you notice a gas smell when you are trying to restart it? Perhaps next time it happens try mashing the gas to the floor while you are cranking it. Perhaps your engine is flooding.

That was my first thought as well - but there isn't any noticeable gas smell. I've tried the mash technique - no luck. Basically held the pedal down, try cranking for 15-20 secs ... no luck. Only time seems to fix it.....

Just thought I'd update the ending to the problem. The same cycle repeated about 3 - 4 more times. The last time she wouldn't start at all.

Turned out to be a bad fuel pump.

Sorry, we let you slip through the cracks since it appears that nobody except the captian replied.

But glad you got it fixed and thanks for reporting back on the problem. So, everything is good to go now? No more "no start" issues?

Yep - good as gold. Wallet'* a bit lighter, but with the fuel pump fix, and a new set of shoes, she drives like new. Acceleration seems to be better as well.
