i have a 1993 bonneville sse 3800 series.one day when i went to take my car i went outside in the frigid pennsylvania to start it up and turn on the heat, but the heater wouldnt work the display showed three dashes across it, the radio wouldnt display the time and the dash compass wont show and it said i had a full tank of gas when i know i only had a bout an eighth left.

so i began to back it out of the spot and into the garage. but however the car was stuck in park so we did it but had just to get it in the garage. after about 15mins o f messing with the shifter we finally got it out of park somehow.

so began the trying to get the heat and radio to work. after an hour of looking at all fuse blocks (one on drivers side, passenger side and by the firewall), looking at the computer and resetting the car and so forth we called it a day and i just took the van.

the next day after work i tried again and same thing so i started messing around very breifly where the computer is and just out of despiration i tried it again. amazingly it worked i turned on the heat and such tested everything out for about five minuets then shutoff the car and went in the house with excitement to make dinner.

i come out about 2 hours later and the same problem again, no heat or radio but only this time i tried for the next three days to get it to work and nothing. ive tried fixya ive tried doin my research online including power library but no luck. i really need the help i know there are some die hard bonneville fans that could tell me my problem in no time.

I'd start off checking the ground busses. There is a write up on how to check/clean them.

If it were just hvac or just radio, I'd think fuse....but both. Hmmmmm

i was hoping it would be a simple fix like a fuse or two as im not to good with electrical wiring and from past experiences with my fiero it is a pain.

it may just be a shot in the dark half because i an so uneducated with the electric side of things but could it be the relays?

This is what Bill Boost was talking about:

The ground busses corrode that are taped along the wire bundles just under the door sill plastic and the carpet edge.

The thing here is not needing to be good with electrical. If you see green, that'* bad. Clean metal is good.

I'm with Bill and others...start with the ground busses..

thanks alot guys once i cleaned that bad boy up it seems to work.. except for when i turn on the radio all my gagues jump and my dash lights flicker

you said once you "cleaned that bad boy up" did you clean the passenger side as well?

hmm flickering dash lights...yep..been there done that.

next thing to do is pull out your headlight switch. inspect for dark brown to black color around plug. indication of cooked headlight switch. replace wire harness...switch...plug...

good to go!

well i only did the driver side. im not so sure the dash light switch would do the trick because its only when i turn on the radio and its my gauges too. unless im wrong.
