1992 SSE S/C bad front subframe
I need to replace the front subframe on my '92 bonne. The front right wheel A-frame has rusted loose in the forward attachment. Has anyone replaced one?, and what years can I use to replace mine? The car is a Michigan car, it only has about 112K miles on it. I've replaced the supercharger. Overall it'* in really good shape.... except for the sub frame. Any advise would be welcome. Thank you!
Yep – same on my ’92. Before you get too far into it I would check the following:
1. Inspect the body of the car where the rear of the subframe bolts to the car. Others have had severe corrosion and cracking in this area.
2. Check to see that you are able to remove the rear 4 subframe mounting bolts (not frozen or the blind nuts in the body do not spin).
If good then it’* not a real bad job to change.
I was not able to find a junk yard one that wasn’t rotted out around the bushings so I picked the best one and made weld repairs to it.
Also, I think you can still order one from GM for like $750 IIRC.
I know ’92 & ‘93 are interchangeable. At some point in the 90’* they changed from a two piece to a one piece subframe. Maybe someone else can answer when this was.
