Default 1992 sse bad transmission

Ok today driving to work the transmission starts acting funny. First it wont shift to 3rd it just coasts then I get it in overdrive it makes the car like stall. Now all I have is 1st and 2nd and the fluid is burnt. This just isn't my week. Other day I blew a rubber brake line on front. What kind of cost should it be to rebuild. I have been told between $1600.00 and $2500.00 I think it is time to retire this one and buy a newer ssei I didnt do too bad with this one. It has 236,853 miles on it. Keep watching it might be for sale.

The lowest prices I have found are: $250 for a 6mo guarantee used trans ('95 4T60E): about $800 to rebuild my old one; (instructions for removing and replacing are in techinfo.) A quality rebuilt, professionally installed trans will be more like $1300 for the trans and $5-800 for the r&r. All depends on how much time and skill you have, how long you intend to keep the car, and how much money you have to spend.

If you replace the trans, make sure you change the rear crank seal on the engine and the pump seal on the trans, and install a new torque converter (about $125.)

Bill...great advice we should all pay attention to...when changing trans...ensure you take care of the typical seeping rear oil seal...

It'* so obvious that most don't think about it. (Like me)

my rebuild was only 1300 tax included. You could buy a brand new GM trans and have it installed at a Dealer for 2600.00 so dont let them screw you around!! Shop around and make sure you TRUST the shop. Mine came with a one year guarantee!! This must be the year for trannies!

I dont think I will be fixing this one. It is time for a new one.
I am going to go look at 3 2000 ssei'* and 2 2001 ssei'*.
I have had this car for 10 years. It is time for a change.
