How did you determine power is getting to the ICM?

Check for spark by pulling a wire off each of the three front cylinders & inserting a spare plug. The base of the plug needs to be resting on metal. If you have three spare plugs you can check all three at once. Now watch for spark while someone cranks the engine. Be careful around fans & pulleys and don't touch wires or plugs while the engine is cranking.

OK I got the code - it said 17 (I think - was one long light and 7 short ones - I counted 4 times to make sure).

We tested the pink wire - I was reading through threads and that was what it said to do was to check the pink wire with a test light. Was this wrong?

I don't have any spare spark plugs and live 28 miles from civilization - is there any other way to check for fire in the plugs?

Yes the pink wire should have 12 volts while the key is on. I'm not sure how I'd check for spark without a spare plug. You could test with one from a lawnmower.
Code 17 - Spark Reference Circuit - Maybe one of the Gearheads can give more info on the code.

If you have power at the ICM & no spark from any of the front wires then the problem is either the ICM or the Crank Sensor. Let'* wait for one of the gearheads to confirm this..

I went back out and checked again and I guess I didn't sit long enough because it is also giving a code 42. From my research code 42 would mean a bad ECM right?

My neighbor did something with a screwdriver and said he was checking the fire in the plugs - and that there wasn't any. Someone else told me that the problem I am having could be a bad ECM (before I got the codes) - so I am thinking I need to call around and price the ECM thingie?

From reading other posts here its my understanding that the ICM controls the spark until the engine starts - then the ECM takes over. I'm still thinking ICM or crank sensor.

OK I think I am confused. Which one is it that is below the coils? ICM or ECM?

You can pull the coils off the ICM & check the resistance of the coils and also for corrosion between the coils & ICM.

That could definetely be a place to start wouldnt it fellas? That shouldnt be happening.

Have you tried cleaning the pellet on the key? Use some rubbing alcohol or contact cleaner to clean if off real good.

If the security system is engaged the car wont start, so I think we need to determine why thats happening first.

It'* a brand new key. I don't remember the security light coming on at all until I went to start the car and it wouldn't. I counted a bit ago and it stays on for 15 seconds and goes out so I don't think that is it.

I just bought a piece of junk is all. Anyone know how long I have to get out of a contract? I bought the car through a used car dealership on Friday.
