Ok where is this device located and whataffect does it have on my car. I understand it is a temperature guage.. If there ia another post explaining it coudl you please point me to it.

The large black hose coming from the radiator on the right side going to the engine has a metal housing that bolts to the lower intake manifold. The thermostat (tstat) is held in place between the housing and the manifold. When the engine gets to the temp indicated by the thermo, the spring contracts and it opens allowing cooled coolant to flow into the engine from the radiator. Therefore maintaining, as best the cooling system can, that temp. Our cars come with 195 tstats. It is a recommended to put in a 180 to possibly enhance engine component life.

No, there are a lot of diffierent sizes. You will need to get one that is the same diameter as the one thats already in it.
