Tranny question

OK, it'* definitely looking like a sticking valve problem. I was going to take the car to Pep Boys during lunch, but it was doing similar things to this morning except that this time, it was slipping slightly in 1st above 3000 rpm. After a couple of miles of driving, it was back to normal. I decided to take the car back to the office and borrow a car to go to Pep Boys.
I bought a bottle of the Lucas stuff for transmissions. I put it in and drove the car a little bit. The problem seems to be going away, but I guess that I won't really know until I leave work later today or when I go to work tomorrow morning. The Lucas stuff will have a chance to really circulate through the whole tranny on my drive home.

Yeah give the trans a chance to work that stuff in... and let us know if it still does the exact same or improved..

I'll report back tomorrow morning.
The Lucas bottle says that it lubricates and frees up stuck valves, revitalizes tranny fluid, and renews clutches. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works out in this case.
The history of this car is that it basically sat around most of the time. The rebuilt tranny that'* in there now was installed at about 30k miles and the car was driven maybe 3k miles in the next 3 years. After I got the car, I put about 70k miles on it in 4 years and the tranny was fine up until now. I admit that I waited a little long (50k miles) to do the first tranny fluid change, but the car sees mostly highway miles and not much abuse.

Drive it down here and sell it to me... 
Seriously tho, these older 4T60'* are hard on tranny fluid... The Owners manual states 50,000 miles intervals for your case if memory serves... But I have always reccomended every 15,000 miles or once a year at least... The #1 cause of failure for these older transmissions is heat failure...
I have a monster Tranny cooler on mine, and it still gets hot... But its better than it was before... I am due for a change...lol

I believe this is an Imperial... I think its made by the same company that makes the Hayden cooler... But if you look close I have no room between the cooler at the front support... I actually had to remove that support to squeeze the cooler in there...
You can almost see the cooler through the grille... I had more cuts than I knew what to do with... This is an oversized cooler... I bought a large cooler simply because I am in florida and it gets too hot done here..... I think this cooler is 24000 lbs + 3000 or 4000 I think... On my 95 I have a heavy duty RV cooler + 7000 Lbs.... I know the cooler on my 91 is just a bit smaller than the one I put on my 95, but not by very much...
I also purchased the correct lines so I could run the cooler simmilar to the factory set up.. Saved me time... Yes It was a bit of a PITA... I feel sorry for the 2000 + guys

Well, the Lucas doesn't seem to have done the trick. :(
The car did the same thing this morning that it did yesterday morning. It took about a mile of driving for it to start shifting from 1st to 2nd and then another mile or so for it to start going into 3rd. By the time I drove about 7 miles down the highway, I was finally able to get it to go into OD. During that time on the highway, it didn't really want to downshift either and I didn't really want to take any chances by completely flooring the gas pedal.
Does the TV cable have anything to do with upshifts or is it only downshifts? I can't see it being the TV cable because it moves fine with the throttle body and why would the problem only happen when the tranny was cold?
I hate to say it, but it looks like it'* time to talk to a tranny rebuilder before I get stranded somewhere. Any suggestions on a beefier rebuild kit?

Just talked to a tranny rebuilder that was recommended by a friend.
The guy said that based on what'* happening, it'* a mechanical problem and that even without tearning into the tranny, it'* obvious that when the fluid is cold and thicker, the line pressure is not going high enough to make the tranny shift. Basically, its days are numbered.
So, I may even be able to drop the car off as early as tomorrow night and get a loaner to drive around in while they're rebuilding my tranny.
I'm looking at an estimate of $400 plus the cost of parts. While the tranny is out, I'll also get a new converter and install a new rear main seal since both of those things have almost 107k miles on them.
