are you talking about the gear reduced as opposed to the direct drive?

I installed this gear reduced starter on my 91 LE...

Sounds like this...

Is that what you were talking about?

The one I used was for a 94-95 Park Ave Ultra or Bonneville SSEi.... But I believe it crosses to the newer years as well.. Might have to do a little parts research on it..

The only issue I had was with the Positive Wire from the battery... Its at a slightly different angle on the Gear reduced starter.. I did a little tab bending, and careful placement to make sure the Ignition feed to the solenoid and the 12V Battery cable would not touch... While I was there I also wrapped the cable in new wire loom..

The starter was actually a direct bolt on for my car...

Its funny that the Service manual shows them making the same amount of power or force.. But have you ever noticed that all of the Bonneville SSEi'* came from the factory with a gear reduced starter?

I believe they have a bit more turning force than a direct drive
