There was no sub in my 91 stock..... the GAIN just controlled the 6x9s
That was my understanding

hey, I like that bass... I think the system lacks treble (even w/ 4 tweeters)... If I had funds, I'd replace just the tweeters.

For those of you with Gain, what setting do you keep it at? Since my SSE doubles as the family car, the gain stays at *on* but at minimal, as not to annoy mom. I find that 100% Gain is too strong, and only emphasizes the poorer high range of the stock audio... Gain on, 50% is what I like. Not into subs, and it'* good for my tastes.

It'* been so long... I think I normally kept it ON and at FULL or 50%... can't remember.

its not all that good, but its enough to give full sound. For a 15 year old car, I consider that damn good, think back in the 80'* with that setup? you'd be golden!

Hold on, you said you had to run wire?? All the wiring should have been there, even if there weren't any speakers. In my case, It just took a bit of effort to find the driver'* side one, but as far as I'm concerned, they should be there.

For me, simply putting in a pair of inexpensive "piezo" tweeters in the dash solved the lack of treble once and for all! And I didn't even have to run any wires - they were in my dash already. It was extremely simple to do, and is a very significant addition to my SSE speaker set.

I had my ENTIRE dash off, there was NO wiring for the two speakers in the dash. I think they only wired it up for the cars with them.

No, Justin. My car was originally an SE, and had no speakers in the dash. I had the Performance sound option from the factory. But the wires were already there. I too had to take the dash apart to find one of them. It turned out to be somewhere below the steering column. :? Maybe SSEs don't have them...

That'* it! because the SE had the option to have or not have the dash speakers, they wired them up anyways, but the SSE'* probably didn't even have them as an option. Good point mate
