Pwr driver seat

Has anyone here taken apart an SSE seat? My driver seat doesn't recline and it's a real pain i nthe neck. I'm not sure if the motor is shot or just unplugged(not the lucky). also--would a newer style motor(92-?) replace my older style? Could've got a leather driver SSE seat for $40--but it was tan.

Well your describing at least 2 different problems here. The "Recline" is on the side of the seat & usually manually operated. The power seat functions is another matter though. Are talking about the "Lumbar" adjust perhaps?

yep--pass side works great!

Tonyrodz Sep 30, 2002 10:30 PM

ok--just wondering if I should tear into it or leave it alone.
also wondered if it was a common problem w/the older models--and if the newer motors would work.

DeathRat Sep 30, 2002 10:52 PM

Try bypassing the switch first! This way you may not have to tear it apart!

Tonyrodz Sep 30, 2002 11:06 PM

Why the switch? Switch works fine--it works for the pass side.

DeathRat Sep 30, 2002 11:21 PM

I meant for the driver's seat controls though! With the switch off you might be able to get certain driver seat functions working using straight power. Remember the driver's seat is always used when in the car! These switches are very complex, every button works a different feature!

So put pwr directly to where the switch was plugged into--or take the seat apart and put power that way?

DeathRat Sep 30, 2002 11:25 PM

Put power to the various terminals where the switch was located! If everything works then replace the switch! You have to find where the power stops! The best place to start is at the switch since the passenger side works fine I have to assume there is power upto the switch! 8)

DeathRat Sep 30, 2002 11:41 PM

You HAVE to start where the power seems to be cut off first...that's the switch....from here you then proceed to each motor's relay....then to each motor....sooner or later YOU WILL FIND the fault!
