Just a WAG (wild-***-guess) that your blower motor may be loose?

Hrm.... I had something like that happen to my 91.... but it turned out to be something not in the dash at all.

Go under the hood and take off the rubber caps on your strut towers. You might be hearing something squeek from them. I used some white grease and later wd-40 and that seemed to fix my odd noises.

Not sure if this is the same type of noise but I hear a slight squeek when I turn the steering wheel even slightly to the right. Merlin- could it be the same thing you described or something else?

If this is what I think it is, I've got this too.

Replaced my blower motor recently as well with a used unit from an '88 SSE that a family friend was parting out (2nd tranny failure). The noise was there before *and* after replacing the motor, so I don't think that'* it.

I get the noise randomly, but it also tends to happen upon starting up the car. A guess would be the door/flap that directs air to the foot vents or upper vents, etc. The heater/fan/AC doesn't have to be on for this noise to be there.

RepinS seems to have the same problem. I bought the blower motor new from murrays (not always the best choice for auto parts i know) it should be ok though. I just wondered if anyone else had the same problem because i was thinking it might be related to the problem i am having with lack of air flow from the defrosters and vents. Not too concerned though, something to fix when i can afford a new ac system

OTW but something you should check out - a worn timing chain that is hitting the case can make that kind of noise. A good mechanic who knows 3800s should be able to tell with a breaker bar on the crank balancer bolt.

it is probably a cracked fan, try keeping the climate controls at off, and see if it still does it...
