My parents just replaced their 1990 Bonneville SSE with a 2002 Bonneville SE and passed the SSE to me. A few questions since it came with no owners manual.

1) There is a button with a music note and a slider labled gain above the gear shift, what are these for? I can't seem to recoginze them changing anything reguarding the sound of the car.

2) Is there a way to reset the Driver information window? My parents got the oli changes at walmart and not at a GM dealer so it says everthing needs to be done when infact they were quite good at getting these things taken care off.

The little slider thingy is a Bass Amp control. To the right, more bass, to the left, less bass. The amp for it is under the center console forward of the shifter in my car.

If you can't tell the difference (It'* not REALLY obvious), the amp may be out. Junkyard part!

As far as the driver information center, mine doesn't track oil changes, etc., but it does everything else including dispense beer. Are you talking about the 2002?

Anyway, try disconnecting your battery for about 30 minutes. It should clear the memory. Then reset the clock and all your presets, and cal the compass! We can help you with that, too.

Definitely try to get an owners manual for your car. Either from the dealer or off Ebay. Also, fill out your signature in your profile so we know what you drive! It'll make future replies alot easier for us, cuz we forget who'* got what with almost 300 members! (Think of it as bragging rights!)

First to say Hi and welcome. Gain I don't know as I hsve a 97 but if it'* related to music turn it up. To reset the service message on my T/A I put the key to the on position and hold the reset button down until it resets. If this doesn't work next oil change take it to any Quick Change and they"ll show you how to do it. Thats what I had to do. Oh and be sure to use a good synthetic oil it"* worth the extra $'*

Welcome to the forum Wesleykonrad Well 1st off everyone is right about the gain switch or bass **** and second Willwren has a god idea about disconnecting the battery and reseting your computer for the D.I.C. and to reset the compass where are u from and we can go from there.

The second will be cheaper & will probally still have one available, while the first one (HELM INC) might have it. Helm Inc usually only goes back ten years only though!

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually inadvertantly did disconect the battery since it needed to be replaced. It was gone for an hour or so. I had to reset the clock but the D.I.C. still reads the same. Also, the Compas is stuck on Calibrating. I am in Winnipeg Canada

Hey welcome to the board! All u have to do to reset the Driver info screen is to hold down the button for a few seconds. That will reset it to the intervals at which they are recommended.

I just posted the compass calibration procedure in the Techinfo section above, under Tech Know-How. http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/techinfo/?category=3 You better use it, 'cuz I've been typing the procedure for 30 minutes! Your zone for magnetic deviation should still be intact, but in case it'* not, you're right on the line between zones 6 and 7. Either should work just fine.

:) Looks like everyone answered your questions but on the "gain" or bass boost slider deal, the button next to it has to be depressed in the down postition for it to work. On mine it does make a noticeable difference when slid all the way to the right and the LD buton is engaged on the stereo. The trick on the DIC is to hold down the button until it stats scrolling thru the service items and let off the button when you reach the one you want to change. Then as you press it again the interval mileage will appear and when it get to the interval you want, let off the button again. It is a pain but it does work.
