Hard to say.

Have you tried to jump it from another vehicle?
Was the battery fully charged when you installed it?
Have you cleaned all the battery cables at both ends (ALL ends of EACH cable)?

An alternator won't keep you from starting if the battery is fully charged.

I don't know about the LE, SE, and SLE, but on my SSE, it has a voltmeter, and I know if the needle is right above the red, she'* going to be slow crankings.. but anywhere above that she is fine.. so if you have a voltmeter, check that, if the voltage is above the red by at least, one or two needle widths, then you are good to go, and your battery/battery cables are fine, then you need to move onto wireing to the starter, do you hear a click, etc.. Also, if the lights dim when you go to crank her over, then your battery is definatly dead.. we'll go from there once we have a little more info.

grab out your voltmeter [multimeter, whatever, something that will measure voltage, and display it, analog, digital, doesn't matter]. and put the test leads [red on red, black on black, i'm sure you knew that], and see what your reading.. I need at least 10.5 volts [although slow going.. and I have a 700CCA battery, so yours will most likely vary] to start my engine.. If you arn't reading anything, then the cables arn't clean.. if you are reading something below 11 volts.. the battery may not be charged enough. What trim model bonne do you have?

don't think the 87-91'* have that. I know I can get my ignition key copied just about anywhere - they can just take a blank and cut a key.

mine doesn't have it.. I know this, because I replaced my lock cylinder . but the original didn't either.. the '91 may have.. ask merlin with his.. because quite a few changes were made in '90, and '91. I think its a small tab that sticks out from the black rubber handle thing [which says "GM" on it],and the metal part of the key..
