The standard one should say add once about every 50K miles.. It's not overly thick either. I completely forgot that the box was black  Oh well..so whats the difference here? |
I'm the one that had the mostly clogged LN3 pickup screen. I can't say if its a common thing or not but you guys here don't think it is. It could perhaps be blamed on my use of Mobil 1 and once in a while a little bit of Sea Foam before changing the oil
|
Well I have not FLUSHED it with anything since I've owned it, but I DO EXCLUSIVELY use Mobil 1...is that a bad thing?
|
Mobil 1 is a good oil, I've no idea where F14 is coming from saying he used Mobil 1, seafoam and clogged a pickup screen. If you ask me..neither of those are capable unless extreme conditions are introduced.

It doesn't make much sense to me either, Bill, but it's true. Could it have been a lot of sludge from the previous owner? I don't know enough about oils to know

That's what I'm thinking. Otherwise my internals would be shiny clean. But hey, its still in great shape

Yes...now let's aim this one back on topic. ;)

Well, I'm a oldie then. My dad has always used 10w30 oil. Guess I'm just carrying the tradition. Most modern car we have, a real nice silver 2001 Sunfire coupe, and we use 10w30 in the crankcase.
My 84 Citation, which has the 2.5 liter Iron duke motor, the 4 banger. It has timing gears, uses pushrods, has low compression high torque. You know those motors. I just rebuilt it a year ago, and just run it occasionally. It has regular 10w30. But right now, when the motor is warmed up, and in low idle, it has a clackey clack noise of the timing gears. Almost sounds like a diesel. It has the cheap oil because I am still trying to break it in from its rebuild. Sometime, i'm gonna try 10w30 mobil one. Might work better. Good motor though, 307,000 kms. Anyways, love mobil one. My Buick uses it, and its ultra quiet, and runs so smooth. Has gobs of power, and its just overall a fantastic motor! Long live the 3800's (and 3.8)'s!! :) |
