Default a little help.

I have a check engine light.. code 65 . .egr solnoid #1
in checking the forums i have found some 2-3 yr old posts that state usually a simple cleaning corrects the issue.

Im a total noob and dont want to mess anything up. Apparently its a quick fix.
Is there anyone in the mississauga area that would give me a hand in this cleaning process.

there is a (case) 24 in it for you. or a bottle if you prefer.
mech shop wants me to get a new one and apparently the digital egr'* are expensive and difficult to find in scrap yard.they never suggested a cleaning..

Nobody replied because you posted in a section not often read by those that cruise the 87-91 section.

You're asking about a mechanical problem, so you shouldn't post in WANTED where people post for PARTS.

I'll move your topic to the right section for you.

Get an old toothbrush and some teflon-based lubricant spray. Spray it on the springs and shafts of the EGR (3 of them), then brush well with the toothbrush. Spray again, then start the car to cook off the excess.

It'* typically not necessary to remove the EGR valve (talking the DIGITAL EGR used through 1993 here, not the linear for 94+) for cleaning unless it doesn't respond to your first attempt. If it should come to be necessary to remove for further cleaning, you'll need a new gasket.
