The 90 engine will run off the 89 ECM with no issues... But it will have the data set for the 2.97 gear ratio.... At the least you could get the other ECM or just the Mem-Cal chip out of it for the 3.33 trans...

jrs3800, you said this in osguy'* thread about the engine swap and I started wondering, could I get a 91 memcal and have it solve some of my tranny shift pts. Remember, I'm the one with the 90 cutlass sl tranny in my 88 sse. Or am I thinking I have the wrong gear ratio?

If you 88 is a 3800 Vin C it will have the same ECM as the 89-90-91... I have used 89, 90 and 91 chips in my 91...

But that most likely won't solve all of your issues...

But being that you think you may have a 3.33 ratio trans and I think you do... You may be able to use an 90-91 Mem - Cal with the 3.33 RPO

Will that solve my shifts pts issue? That is the only thing I am worried about.

No...

Look, The 440-T4( 4T60 ) does not use electronic controls with the exception of the TCC Solenoid... The ECM does monitor the gear switches in the trans... The trans you installed did have the 5 pin connector correct? I believe that the 88 3800 used the 5 pin connector for the trans...

I forget exactly what issues you were having... High shifts?

Also a question, when you swapped the trans did you remove the (TV - Throttle Valve ) Kickdown cable from your old trans and install it on the new trans?

Default TV

You may be able to make a simple TV cable adjustment at the throttle linkage to change your shift points.

I made the necessary adjustment according to the haynes manual and it helped some, but I am still shifting high. Can I adust it more to get the desired effect or is there only so far I can go with that?

What Motor was the Trans attached to? 2.8 or 3.1 By chance? There could be a diffrence with the TV Cable/Bracket between the 3800 and the chevy 2.8 - 3.1

is that even a 4t60? 3.1s are 3t40 and 3100s are 4t60s IIRC.... if it'* a 3t40 it'll probably never work properly considering it'* not even the right trans. Just be happy it would even move a car twice the weight and quite a bit more power behind it too.
