Default Groaning Noise from Wheel

Lately there has been an intermittent groaning noise/vibration from my front left wheel/tire/brake.

It seems to be only during slow speeds, and when the car is sort of on an incline. But it totally goes away when I'm pressing the brake. As soon as I let the brake go, it comes back.

So I figured it was just a warped pad or something to do with the brakes, so I had them checked, no problems. They are fine.

Any other suggestions on what it might be?

I'm just a little worried about it, because I'm going to be travelling 1000kms+ during the weekend and I don't want to have it cause any trouble.

Sounds like it could be a wheel bearing to me.

Would the noise from a bad wheel bearing go away if/when I touched the brake?
Also, how bad would a wheel bearing be $$$ wise?

Is it going to be safe for me to drive it 1000kms this weekend.
(Gotta drive upto Northern NB and then back)

Thanks

I would think that by applying the brake it would dampen the vibration of a bad wheel bearing. If your going to be driving 1000+ km'* soon, then personally I'd take it in and find out for sure what it is. As far as the cost I think your probly looking at about $150ish. The rear wheel bearing are the expensive ones on these cars.

Well I'm driving 500km to meet bonnieboy23. He'* a mechanic. So if it gives me any problems in the first 500km I'll have him look at it.

I spoke with my own mechanic and he agrees with your suggestion about the wheel bearing. He said that'* probably exactly what is causing it.

Thanks for your help, and wish me luck on my trip.

Thanks....

Just thought I'd let you all know that the trip is about 3/4 over. Earlier today I hooked up with bonnieboy23 and one of his friends. He was working on his 89 SSE. We had 4 Bonnie'* there.

1991 Black SSE
1990 Green SSE
1989 Burgandy SSE
1989 Burgandy/Grey LE (for parts)

I've got photos, and as soon as I get back home, I'll be posting some of them here, and all of them on my website.

I've travelled 750kms so far, the noise seems to be ok, just gets worse during low speeds and hard turns (like parking lots). I'll get it fixed next week.

I'm on dialup right now at a hotel in Moncton..... only 250km more to home.
So far I've only taken damage in the windshield due to a rock.
Lets hope I make it home w/o and further damage.
