Good News....
Got a response on my tranny search, $349 (includes shipping) already tested and running great, D&J auto parts, only thing is it'* in indiana and i wish i could take some shipping charge off that, oh well at least there'* one available. Would rebuilding the one i have be cheaper? They also found me some good tail light covers, and the springloaded trunklid keyhole cover.
feel good today James

taillight covers?
oh yeah $349 isn't bad for a tranny including shipping, you'd think that price would be just for the shipping. Just make sure you get a 30 day warranty... it'll come in handy.

make sure its the right one for your engine. In 88 they had two different engines, and they used different transmissions. There'* the Vin 3, which was mostly 87 and some 88, and the Vin C, which was some 88 until 92 or 93. The easiest way to tell the difference is to either check your Vin, or just pop the hood and see if it has a manifold cover. Vin 3 doesn't whereas the Vin c does. And either way, 349 is way cheaper than what it costs to rebuild them.
62 day warranty for tranny, 8th digit in vin is C and i really should check to see if it'* the right one. what do you mean by manifold cover? And i noticed something peculiar the other day, after the cat and o2 sensor were installed the car started to smoke a little from under the hood when warm.... should i be worried? :?
That picture is of an 88 "C" 3800 (last year "3800" was on manifold, and a much later cover (91 or painted ?). (89-up had 3800 on cover & not on manifold, was never on both). Isn't the one without a "3" ? (different valve covers).
That smoking could be the oil that is on the engine due to leaking head and manifold gaskets, when it gets hot the oil will snoke a bit. If it still run ok then changing the gaskets should help.
mine does have the cover on the manifold, also the brake light covers i refer to are the clear covers the go over the brake lights and turn signals. Still runs great, could still use a transmission or service :?
easiest way to tell is also check the TCC plug,if its 4 pin,its the older 3800 and if its the newer ones, its a 5 pin one.the tranny are completely interchangable, ( i swapped them 87 tranny in a 91 for me for 200$) and the 5th orange pin on the TCC was cruise i believe?..thats the only thing i lost in the tranny switch, also get a tranny cooler (biggest failure of the THm440-T4'* is overheating.180 t-stat is a must.
