The only time you should bypass the core in the radiator is if you've ever had a trans failure that sent debris, chunks, and snot through your system. That'* why I'm bypassed. HOWEVER, I had planned to cover part of my monstrous trans cooler in the winter, and never needed to.

Go with the factory method of going to the radiator first, then out the top line to the cooler. This way your less likely to chill the trans fluid in the winter.
