Default Dash light question

on my car when I turn on my headlights all the lights on the radio dim like they are supposed too but I was wondering do the lights on the automatic climate control not dim. The part in the middle that shows where the air is coming from and the temperature doesn't dim. Anybody with these years on car know anything about it. I'd kinda like the green lights in there not to be so bright.

ok, mine dim on one ot the cars, and the other one doesn't dim. the dimmer for the ACC is connected into the radio. when i put a radio into the car, (came out of a bonne without the ACC) it stopped dimming. i think it has to do with the radio.

Hmmm. Sounds familiar! I don't have an electrical diagram of your car, but if it'* anything like mine, you must have a radio other than the stock one in it.

Is that true?

Yea the dimmer is controlled by the radio/casette/CD.

Found that out when I installed a new aftermarket deck in my Bonnie.
If you use a stock Delco deck from 87 - 91 I believe that your dimmer should work again.

Is this something that used to work at one time, or has it never worked since you owned the car?

I had an 89 SE with ATC. It is supposed to dim.

On the 92 and 93 there is a unique signal that comes from the radio that dims the VF display on the climate control. Yours is probably the same. I would check the wiring between the radio and climate control. A good electrical diagram would assist greatly. On my car the wire is purple and white.

My setup is not quite the same as yours.

Before I changed the Delco deck my stereo was not controlled by the dash lighting setup. Beside my headlight switch there is a dial that controls "interior ambiance"

The lights brighten and dim as I move the dial up and down. When it gets to the top it locks and the interior lights come on. Sounds to me like our setup is all different.

But then again you have the higher end enviromental control. Must be nice

I can get a fancy car with Automatic Climate Control but no oil pressure gauge or tachometer. Go figure.
