Definitely--it'* my daily driver too!! I drive it 165 miles roundtrip a day and it seems the problems are starting to mount.

your twilight sentinel switch is burnt, you probably need a new one, i had the same issue with my 90 le, if u need a switch ive got one for you, if your interested. also your dash, the compass and dic not working, i fixed mine, you have to take the top part of the dash of and then your whole display, should pop off if you haul from both sides, then clean the connectors on the left side (where the compass is ) that should stop the annoying flash youve got going on, ...hope i helped

Sounds like his parking lights don't come on with the headlights from the standard switch, but twilight works ok.

yep-the parking lights come on only when I put the lights on w/the sentinel switch.
I have a spare light switch that didn't fix the problem. Also--when I bought the car the sentinel sensor was buried under the dash-I pulled it out and put it where it belonged, it caused the light switch to go out-and to reset it I had to unplug the headlight switch and re-plug it in--weird!
I'm gonna try cleaning the contacts on the compass--but I don't think it'll work.

Flashing cluster...I've heard this is indicative of a BAD cluster...must be replaced..

Yes, sounds like a bad headlight switch. The twilight sentinel bypasses the switch, by using a relay to turn on the same circuits that the switch operates manually.

But I have 2 seperate headlight switches that I've used w/the same results.

Um, can we back up a second here? Lemme see if I understand you right:

If you use the Twilight Sentinel, all your lights work properly.

If you pull the headlight **** out manually, only your headlamps go on; the parking, side-marker and taillamps stay out.

Were these brand-new headlight switches that you tried? Any chance of borrowing a known-good switch from another GM car for a minute? And just as a long-shot guess: You're putting in the correct replacement switch each time, right? I assume the switch for a car withTwilight Sentinel is not the same part as for one without.

It'* starting to sound like you have a wiring problem instead, somewhere in the dash relating to the headlight switch wiring. Ordinarily I would suspect a blown fuse in the exterior lighting circuit (since the headlamps themselves don't go through that fuse), but I would not expect the Twilight Sentinel relay to bypass that fuse.

By any chance do you have a remote starter or an aftermarket alarm system that flashes the exterior lights? It'* possible that where it'* cut into the lighting circuit, they broke the existing circuit through/from the headlamp switch. The Twilight Sentinel relay probably cuts in somewhere beyond that break.

Both switches have the sentinel on them--not sure if the other is good--but 2 bad switches? When I pulled the switch plugs out I saw an orange wire spliced to another wire--and one wire looked a little burned--also the car does have an aftermarket alarm in it--but as long as I've had it the lights never flashed(I'd like to rip it out anyway!) Maybe that'* where the light problem originates from? Damn alarm!
Finding a known good light switch is impossible! I haven't found an SSE in the yards here yet--but I did pull a switch from a 90-91 SE Bonneville--gotta try that one next(so I actually have 3 switches).

Ah-ha. I assume you know an aftermarket splice when you see one, and it sounds like you did.

Tell us more about this splice with an orange wire and "another wire": I assume you're looking at a wire coming out of your headlight switch plug which is spliced to another. What are their colors? (You didn't say which of the two is orange, or what the other color is.)

Also, is the aftermarket wire tapping _into_ the wire from the switch (which is otherwise uninterrupted), or was the factory wire snipped off at that point, so it _only_ connects to the aftermarket wire? (If so, can you find the snipped end anywhere nearby?)

You're welcome, but at this point I wouldn't bother getting any more switches yet; I doubt that'* where your problem really is.

My guess at this point is that (1) whoever installed the alarm managed to sever the exterior lighting circuit from the headlight switch while installing the alarm, so that the alarm could blink the lights when it wanted to, but the headlight switch itself was no longer connected to that circuit, and (2) your twilight sentinel relay could still turn all the lights on at dusk like it'* supposed to, and so no one noticed the problem until now.
