Default code 39

I get a code 39 torque converter circuit??? Anyone have any ideas on this? Car drives fine and seems ok? I also get that quirky Tach jumping around or sometimes it will just lay flat and not move at all.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

That code means that your torque converter is not locking up properly.

also killing your mpg.

How would the ECM know that the TC isn't "stalling"?

It knows what RPM'* are expected at certain speeds, assuming the TC locks up.

I got the same code once but never came back, so I never got the work done on it. I talked to my mechanic and he told me what it was. They won't even touch the trannies, they have a tranny shop that they send people to. The place they send it to I have heard about alot and seem very good.

I think it was a solenoid or something that needs to be changed, said it was about 200-300$ for the repair.

Just curious since we are on the subject. What rpms is the car running at regular cruising speed.

I know that my trans goes into OD at 80km/h. If I am going up a hill and have to give it more gas I can get it to drop to about 2,000rpms at about 100km/h.
Sometimes I find that you have to et off the gas for it to go into lockup. I still think it is not getting into full lockup.

Don't wanna steal your thread but figured you may be having the same.

Default Lock up

Mine does the same it does seem to lock up I am around 2k at 100km. Yesterday it did something weird I went from a dead stop to pass someone and it seemed like it would not kick out of 1st and reved to the red line before it finally let go. I also heard today that it is not hard to change the solanoid about a 30 dollar part and is easy to get to on the tranny but not positive on this.
