Default Cluster bulb out?

I can't see the 0dometer ( mileage) in the dark. Its very dim and slightly red. Too dim to see the mileage even with the dimmer wheel turned to the brightest setting. Everything else is fine. I pulled the cluster. Oh and thank you DRBones for your dash removal tutorial. It was spot on. So I pulled the cluster and tested every bulb one by one. Everyone of them was fine. I did notice the only one in the vacinity of the odometer was tinted red. I replaced it with a standard 194 bulb figuring it would be brighter. It did not make a bit of difference. Am I missing something here? Do I need to disassemble the cluster to access a hiddedn bulb? Or is this normal to not see your odometer at night? I think not.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Well that'* no fun. How many times do you go out after dark and you need to check the mileage, Like when your going someplace you have never been. If it'* supposed to not be lit up, thats lame. I may add my own light. It annoys me that much.

Wonder if you can buy an aftermarket digital, or install one from a newer car? Or extra bulbs! :P

I ended up using a flashlight

but yeah, the lighting is SO useless. Basically it only tells you that the odometer is... there... don't bother reading it

Mine isn't bright either, but i can see it. I do know when i had my cluster apart and i was looking at it that there was a spare light socket behind the speedo. So i took the bulb from my SES light (that was always on no matter what i did to fix the code" and put it in the spare socket just to see. Man it really helped brighten my speedo. Don't mean to get off topic but i thought you might be interested

Anyone ever replaced their cluster lens? I wanted to remove mine in order to clean some schmeg (is that a word?) thats on the inside of the lens. It looks like it'* glued in place and may break if trying to remove it. I will add an LED to shine on the odometer because it bugs me that much. If I can figure out how to upload a picture on this site I will do so.

that'* interesting... because my odo one works good, but the trip is useless... it just kinda lights up the lines between the numbers.
