Here's my two cents. I have 262K on my 90 SSE. I swear by the Mobil 1. I used the for 200K, and the last 60K I've used Castrol Syntech. I only use 5W-30. I don't change the weight for the summer/ winter etc. I still drive her 80miles everyday. I believe the long life crap is just marketing hype.

Oil dosen't ever break down, what happens is that it gets contaiminated, metal shavings, moisture.

Open, I would worry too much about rebuilding this engine. The thing is a workhorse. My suggestion is to have your Mom take it to work every two week or so to keep the seals and crap from drying. Every three months change the oil, use the cheap stuff if your not gonna drive it regularly. If you take care of the car it will last. And be careful coz the Bonne will become an obsession.

lol, i think she already is an obsession, I don't want to do anything wrong to her. I just want her to be the coolest car I can make it. Unfortunatly my mom will never drive this car ever again. Her exact words where "Because you have started working on the car, and I see what you do in there, I do NOT feel safe driving in that car, and nor do I feel it is reliable."

If my dad would be a little nicer i could have him take it over to his place for the weekend and we work on it while i'm there [he's got all the tools x2 that i'd need, and he's restored so many cars in his lifetime he knows his way around cars very well]. I think she'll be alright, and I think your right dude, put the cheap stuff in and change it every 3 mo. since she really never gets driven. Thats what I'll do, this weekend i'll got pick up some of the cheapest name brand oil I can.

Sounds like our Moms have there own internet club.

Last thing, I learned this from an oil guy, Make sure the oil you pick has an API seal on it. It doesn't matter which brand as long as it meets that spec.
