choice upon oil
what do you guys think? 35-120k of the car was mobil 1, the rest up untill 150k was crap. The car sits now since I can't drive her [i'm only 14], and I need her to last for 100k more. but the car needs to run [most of the time] so draining out the oil completly is not an option.

Well I just recently switched my 2 cars over to Mobil 1 oil. The full synthetic high mileage stuff for the Bonne and the regular full synthetic for my Malibu. So I would stick with Mobil 1. And as for trying to get all the oil out, well just run the car and let it get a bit warm and then drain the oil so that you have a better chance to get the most of it out.

will the oil break down over time, and it looses its protection? Also what about that high milege oil? is that stuff any good?

Well if the car is started occasionally then I would still change the oil. That starting and stooping and not getting to running temp for a long enough time will just add more moisture than it should have, that is why you are suppose to change your oil every 3 months or 3,000 Miles.
That high mileage stuff is just a little bit thicker full synthetic oil, I could probably get away with the regular synthetic but I figured why not try it since it does have a bit higher mileage. |
I know about that, I won't start the car unless she's going to be driven, and not just driven for a few minutes but for at least 15+ minutes to warm up all the oil in the tranny, engine, just get everything moving, and let the car stretch itself, not get pits in the crank bearings.
I think i'll throw in some syn. high milege stuff, thicker sounds better. And I bet some castrol high milege is cheaper than mobil one. I doubt i'll put mobil one back in my baby till i rebuild the engine or till i start driving her regularly which should be next year when I have my permit, hopefully my mom 'll teach me to drive on my bonnie, instead of her wussy no power beetle. -justin |
Well that Mobil one is not that expensive. I picked it up at Wal Mart up here and it was only about 30$ for a 5L or a 4.4L ( high mileage is one size and regular is another size) Jug of it. Which is not bad once you figure out the exchange and the fact that it is a full synthetic.

$30 USD or Candian currency. Because $30 canadian is cheap, i could afford to buy that in USD.

well then I think next weekend i'm going to wal-mart and pickin' me up a package of that stuff. SSE takes 5.5 quarts I think, i'm going to double check that, because that doesn't sound right to me.

crank case capacity: 4 quarts -- 4 liters 5.2 liters -- 5.5 quarts SSE also in here it says every 7.5k mi/ 12 months to change the oil. but only if no short trips where made. So yeah. otherwise its 3mo/3k mi. oh well i'll figure out what I am to do. -justin |
