Strut Tower Brace
Hey
I was out at the Boneyard and I thought I would look for a brace. I got the complete assembly off a '95 Olds 88 I think it was. Anyway, when bolting it up to my '89 what should I be careful of? My FSM says to tighten the nuts to 18lbs/ft. I take it this number does not change when putting the bar on?
Thanks.

Use the same torque, other than that just bolt it in and enjoy. My shims didn't fit anymore, so I just pulled those out before putting the brace on. The car I took the brace off of didn't have any shims anyways. I put mine in at the junkyard in the parking lot . It was a much better ride home!

I just pulled the STB'* from my 1992 and 1997 Bonneville parts cars last week. Put one on my 89 Lesabre and will be putting the other on my dads 1990 Olds 98.
I could hardly believe how much it helped. My dad doesn't believe it helped much, but I know it'* going to be another case of "Canadian Club is better than Crown Royal!" after which he stops drinking CC and empties my Crown Royal Special Reserve with due haste.

mmmm...strutty goodness.
As you can see it cleared the brake resevoir no problem, not even the cap is obstructed.
I only took it around the bay and I could notice a difference. It'* hard to describe, kind of like the front end was very tight, less sloppy. The two front tires felt like they moved as one. It was awesome. Thanks for the help!

I grabbed a STB off a Buick. Not sure what year it was. Got home and threw it on the Bonne, that was a while back, close to when it was first put on the road.
I honestly couldn't tell you how much it helps cause I don't get a chance to really drive the car, Renee has it all the time. Plus I am pretty sure I put it on before I changed the front struts since they were getting old and and "boat like".
I am however debating putting one on the Malibu, wich I can grab from a cavalier. That I will see if there is a difference or not cause I spend alot of time in the car, It is a 2003, now with just over 125,000 kms on it.
