yep. you run the risk of burning up the fuel pump, as the fuel is a cooling source. Also, engine misfires caused by lack of fuel can also wreak havoc with your feline converter.

i go by miles..i calculated i have about 23 mpg on highway(25 if i watch my RPM'* >2000,and 18-19 in the city ...so 3 gallons i fill up it gets me about 50-70 miles depending where/how i drive ,then i fill again...taht way i get consistant readout of the MPG.

wow, 23mpg highway? You should be able to hit 30 without problems. Tune-up?

mines is tuned beyond tuning...

this is 23mpg estimated right after a oilchange,and i always let the car warm up for 1-2 minutes,it help to raise the engine to operating temp for better mileage,all little things that add/subtract when you get the to the pump.

also,new airfilter about a week earlier,and other small adjustments,detent cable..stuff like that..

my '87 got about 26-28mpg highway miles.... and i swear i' keep it up and running (new AC plugs,new wires, K&N cone, new pcv... etc etc etc, new trans fluid/filter, cleaned out the upper intake with the GM upper eng. cleaner.. cleaned TB by hand... !)... i get about 17mpg city...

I don't know what else i could do to help it short of getting inside the engine....

However it is important to note that car and driver (featuring the '87 Bonneville as one of its 10 - Best for '87 (wonder if the bonnie ever showed up again since then?.... )) noted its mileage at (correct me if i'm wrong) at 18mpg(city) and 27mpg(highway)... that being BRAND new. .. on that respect i guess we're not too far off, i dont know why its low though since i do know the latter-day bonnies got much better mileage (in the 20s and up accross the board).

Oh well, they all pale in comparison to what my '65 Bonneville gets (whenever i get it.. hopefully soon) which should be about 10 - 12 mpg hahahah oh man i love it!

Have three: 88 and 90 "C" and an "L" in a 92 TranSport. All get 23-25 mpg on the road and 17-19 around town. The readout in the '88 shows 30 mpg at 65 mph but that is steady state, already at speed, on flatlands.

Just had an Avis 2004 LeSabre in New Orleans and that showed 38-39 mpg at 60-65 mph with the a/c on. There have been significant improvements in recent years.

I remember ggetting excited about the chance of having the aggressive (3.3 i believe) ratio but when i looked at my trunk lid i didn't see that RPO listed so I guess i have the ordinary one (2. something? (i forget)).
