No reason to unplug the battery if your just unplugging a sensor.

Dan, I'm thinking he has a bad circuit in the ECM and needs to replace it, but also needs to find out which device on circuit #1 could have failed and caused the issue with the PCM. If he doesn't correct the issue with the device, the same thing could happen to a new PCM. Do you have any experience with this type of thing? If not, is there someone else we should pull into this.

If I'm out in left field let me know, I am just trying to get some direction on the problem he is having.

Code 26 is a quad driver in the circuit.
Think of it as a circuit breaker inside the ECM. It will shut down when there is an exterior issue with things that are connected to it. This protects the ECM. Looking at the schematic I would try unplugging the canister purge solenoid and somewhat happens. It that doesn't work I would look at the low speed cool fan relay. Something is drawing to much current on the circuit. The code is setting because the ECM is in a self protection mode. It also might be an internal ECM issue. But I would look externally first. Hope that clarifies a bit

A little FYI. On October 2nd my daughter had a colonscopy screening. On October 28th, she had major surgery to remove part of it and, problems with her gall bladder, she had that removed at the same time. It'* been a trying time. I know this is not a forum for these topics. Hope I haven't crossed the line.

Just wanted to thank everyone for all of your help. It was a bad connection of the canister purge solenoid. I wouldn't of found my way there without the help of you guys on this forum. Took the car to get it inspected yesterday. And the guy said the car was running better numbers than some of the late model cars he gets in.

Just a little more FYI. This car is..was.. my fathers car. He bought it new. Garage kept. 90570 miles to date. He passed away Oct. 4, 2008. Have too keep it running. And I love driving it!
So thanks again.
