89 LE: Car sometimes stalls when shifting to drive
Captain and his diagrams... Don't forget to pull the IAC solinoid part thing ALL the way out, and clean the whole shaft. Then push it all the way in before installing. That'll cause the car to stall when you first start it after the cleaning.. but it will adjust better this way [my idle was screwed up for like ~30 mi if I don't do that, but if I do, just a minute of idling fixes me up]. No clue why it does that.. just know it'* retarded.
Also, if you have never pulled the TB, you MAY have some issues removing it. If you cannot get the TB off for the life of you, and you are 100% sure you got all the bolts and connections are removed.. you will have to pull the intake to get it off. Another member and I have run into this problem.. not fun.

I suppose it could be bad gas, but it sounds like it'* doing it too regularly for that. Also, it'* running fine for the most part, just not under load at idle.
Still, if you were hesitant to dig into your TB, you could fill up with premium and dump in some gas dryer and fuel injector cleaner and see what that gives you. Clean fuel injectors never hurt anyway, right?

I would also like to point one more thing out. I believe that my car really only stalls if I begin turning the wheel immediately after shifting the car into drive. If I let the car sit there, the RPM'* drop and then go back to normal, but if I begin turning the wheel like I did yesterday on my way to work, the second I turned the wheel immediately after shifting the car stalled out on me pretty quick.

Turning the wheel while the car is not moving makes the power steering work hard, and when the power steering is working hard, the pump is harder to turn, and when the pump is harder to turn, the serpentine belt is harder to turn, and when the serpentine belt is hard to turn, the engine needs more air/fuel mixture to allow it to stay running. That'* what the IAC does, or in some cases (like yours, I think) doesn't do.
Have you tried cleaning that yet?
