I have a fuel pump that went bad. I can pull the fuel line at the filter on the tank side and get nothing. I can use starting fluid and it will start right off and run untill out of fluid. Here is my question. So I don't have to drop the tank to change the pump, will an electric in line pump work or will this trick the computer and not work?

The proper way to do this is drop and replace. An inline pump may not be able to pull fuel through the existing pump at a good enough rate to feed the vehicle. Or it might, but do you want to chance it while paying nearly the same amount as swapping the in tank pump.

I did mine today took maybe three hours with quite a few breaks. easy job just be careful with the metal lines had one break and the exhaust if its weak it will put to much pressure on it when dropping tank

overall yes it'* not too bad a job, me and my dad had to replace his fuel pump in his 90 Buick riviera. the only thing i screwed up was the fuel level float, it is stuck on 3/4 of a tank and only moves a little bit up or down on the gauge.. Hope yours is up and running now...
