hi i have a 1988 bonneville sse with only 70'000 original miles and had the same problem. so this is how you would find out if its the mass air flow sensor. while you start the car keep your foot on the gas to idle trhe car at 3000 rpms and at the same time you do that have some one unplug the clip from the mass air flow sensor stopping it from working and continue to let the car run or drive it like that to see if it dont shut off then its definetly the m.a.f.* but you will need to plug it back in in order to restart the car once yo ushut the ignition off. theis will definetly work. hope i can help

please try this. it might work i believe.you will need another person to help you.. first open the hood. when you start the car put your foot on the gas keeping the car at a idle of 3000 rpm'* them have some one else unplug the mass air flow sensor while your foot is on the gas the take your foot off once the maf is un pluged and see how the car runs. and yes its ok to drive with the maf unpluged. if it drives and sound better then it definetly the maf which i believe it is as i had the same exact problem with my 88 sse.. trust me....and yes code 34 in my gm factory service manual is the maf... thanks and let me no what happens

If you do this please stay far away from any major roads...
You'll have to be a left footed braker as well
