performanc specs on a 97-02 Grand Prix GT
Ive been looking all over the place and i cant seem to find any performance specs on a 97-02 Pontiac Grand Prix GT (4 door)...The reason is that my friend was thinking of trading in his 94 Cavalier z24 with a phase one body kit in for a Grand Prix, and i was trying to see how a Grand Prix would put up with a 96 Bonneville SLE. I was just wondering if anybody would have some insight on this matter, and your answers would be greatly appreciated.

They have the Series II 3800 just like the Bonnies, although the GP is lighter, so it is faster. You typically see 0-60 in the low 7 second range, and the 1/4 in the mid-high 15'*.

ok...but its posted the the weight of my car is 3446, and it says the curb weight of the grand prix'* are 3414...idk it could just be me but i dont think thats a big enough difference to give it that much of an edge

Some GP'* have a nasty U-bend in the downpipe that cost them 5hp and 5tq compared to the Bonneville. There'* also a gearing difference between the GB and Bonneville. What it all boils down to is don't expect to go into this in the GP and come out a winner. The SLE may surprise you. This is going to be very driver dependent, as the cars are closely matched, irregardless of the weight difference.
And the SLE weighs less than 3400 empty. Pretty sure about that.

If the SLE weighs, say, 50 lbs less than my SSE, and that GP GT weighs 20 lbs more than my sisters bare-bones 1997 GP GT (no leather, no HUD, 4-speaker stereo, no digi climate control, no chromies, etc...) you will find the SLE and GP GT weigh within 20-30 lbs of one another.
The GT does have the gearing advantage with it'* 3.29'* vs the SLE'* 3.06, but with an option-ladden GT you two could be neck-&-neck or super close.
I gave my sister'* 3360 lb 1997 GP GT a good view of my tails in my 3450 lb 1998 SSE, but I do have a few mods (Thrasher CAI, 3" DP, Magnaflow high flow catalytic convertor, plugs, wires, TPS mod, etc, but she has a gutted air box with a K&N and some NGK TR55 plugs on some cheap 8MM wires).
