i'm new to the bonneville club i have owned a 97 sse for about 2 years and it has been a dream to drive. i work with a few kids who just bout a 07 civic si and a 05 srt-4. what could i do to my car to get more perfromance out of it to hang in with their cars

Don't do anything besides a high flow cat at this point. Our mufflers actually are quite high flow as they sit now. Do an intake of some kind first - AFTER you get your car nice and tuned up. Search "rice pipe" and go from there.

i have my car already recently tuned up and i have a high flow 3' cat just put on it and am putting on a secret weapon intake system tuesday and have ordered a 180deg. thermostat just not quuite sure where 2 go now

With the intake you got...be sure it'* shielded from engine bay heat and the filter is a quality one otherwise you could be doing more harm than good. Be sure you don't open up your exhaust too much. I'm a little weary of a 3" cat on a non-supercharged car.
It sounds like your next step would be rockers or a cam. Get a PCM to maximize your setup too. Visit www.intense-racing.com or www.zzperformance.com and do some browsing around. You'll find it'll start to get pricey quickly Do a search on Ported Exhaust Manifolds (PEM'*). You could benefit from them after doing rockers or a cam.
