looking for a good scantool
i'm interested in getting a good scantool and i'd like recommendations on where to go and what to look for. let'* say my price limit is $400(US) and i want a stand-alone unit, meaning nothing that requires a PC to hook into. what will show me the most parameters and allow me to diagnose the most problems? another question: will OBDII continue to be the interface in coming years, or will i waste my money now only to have it replaced by another technology that'* in the pipeline?

I have an auto Xray that you can get at a local parts store.....I don't remember how much I paid for it but it'll read the OBD 1 & 2 and the 95 OBD 1.5 (that'* what I call it.) Also has live stats so you can monitior engine components while you drive. Good investment for me. I think I got it for aroun 225 maybe?

yeah, that would be nice... the only problem is i don't have a laptop or a palm, so i'd like something that can stand alone. will i be able to find anything worthwhile that'* a stand-alone, or would i need to get one that works in conjunction with a PC in order to view the most information?

Check www.pfyc.com because I think they have a scanner you can use without a palm/PC, but thats no fun because its not really portable information.

Do you have a PocketPC? I am using a scantool by this company http://www.autoenginuity.com and so far Im loving their product...
Also if you want an alternative scanner that can do a case learn, search on ebay for a Snap-on MT2500 w/GM cartridge/key. If you find the right deal, you can get them for like 500-600$ on ebay...
