Wanna be faster
Hey guys,
I'm new here. I was surfing the web for bonneville sites and found a link tothis one off cardomain.com.
Here'* the thing. I have a 1997 Bonneville SEEi. It pushes 245hp and I do 15.2 in a quarter mile at around 86-87mph. I want more horsepower and I've come up with a few ideas. I've always been into older cars of the muscle car era so I know a lil bit about building up teh carbuerated motors. But when it comes to fuel injection I'm totally lost. I know a fews things though. I've thought about adding a different air filter, better exhaust, high performance plugs and wires and adding a cool air intake. But I have a few question that some bonneville owners out there may be able to help me with.
1) Can I add a cool air intake system on a bonneville in the first place?
2) Would it be wise or even affective to have a cool air intake system (if possible) and a ram air system at once?
3) And my big question is this.... If I run 240-245 hp as it is now...is 300hp possible or am I just dreaming??

Howdy and welcome to the club. You have joined an excellent site for Bonneville owners. Have patience and I am sure you will receive many replies in reference to your questions. In the meantime it would be a good idea to update your signature and lets see some pics of your 97SSEi.

Hey, Welcome to the club!
I added one to my '95 SSEi over the last few days (kept modifing it for better performance and YES, it does make a difference. Especially with other mods like pullys and exhaust.
I also added a make shift ram air setup as well. I have ducting running from just beneth the bumper to behind the headlight to help force cool air in by the filter. It seems to be working so far since my intake temps have dropped.
300hp is definetly obtainable. There are tone of mods you can do that will get you up in that range, and even higher. Check out http://www.intense-racing.com/ for tons of things you can do. My personal opinion says install a 180 thermostat, CAI, 3.4 pulley, and hen an exhaust. That should get you right on your way!

Ram air won't actually feed the engine, but will help prevent heatsoak from the engine bay from reaching the filter. I'm also using it to externally cool my SC.

300 is easily reachable. Your engine is basically the same that is in the GP GTP and 97-03 SSEi'*. There are guys pushing upwards to 700hp on these motors. You can click my pic in the sig to see what I have done and I'm at close to 350 if not more (at the crank).
To get you to 300...
180-Tstat
autolite 605 plugs
cold air intake
3.4 pulley
1.9 ratio rockers
You can follow my mods and horsepower gains here...

Welcome aboard...and yes your 97 can be much quicker.
I would add to Rogue'* list;
180-Tstat
autolite 605 plugs (or 104)
cold air intake
3.4 pulley
1.9 ratio rockers
Intense PCM
Or even the list above without the rockers if you're not inclined to do that sort of work will give you good power.
Cheers,

Thanx for the tips guys I really appreciate it. But like I said I don't know a whole lot about motors. I know most of the basics so could someone give a lil more info on the pully the rockers and what exactly is a pcm?

Your PCM is the powertrain control module, its the brain for your motor. There is a lot of code inside it that restricts power based on a number of criteria. You can read about it here.
INTENSE PCM
The pulley size you want to go to is a 3.4, stock is 3.8. This will move more air and increase your HP and Torque by about 25HP and 40 ft/lbs.
INTENSE Moduler Pulley System
1.9:1 Ratio Rockers will increase the amount of air moving into the cylinders. Stock is 1.6:1. This will give you about 30hp and increase your top end acceleration.
INTENSE 3rd Gen Rockers
If you decide to do rockers AND the PCM the higher shift points from the pcm may cause you to experience valve float. This is where the valves dont fully close at high rpm and you may never reach the shift point. To avoid this you may want to consider stronger springs and retainers. These are also available from INTENSE and you can peruse their site by clicking the link in my sig.
