A cold air intake is an intake of air from a cold area. This area is cold relative to the engine, so generally as long as your car isn't breathing in air as hot as the engine or around there, you are set. A fender well intake is an intake of air from the fender well. That'* around your wheel, and it'* isolated from the engine bay.

Your dual filter setup both reduces the possibility of smooth-flowing air and also heats the air that goes into the engine so that it defeats the purpose of your CAI. I think too many ricers say "cold air intake" for pretty much anything, so lots of people get confused. As long as you're not drawing in hot air, you're set. Because in your case you are drawing in hot air, you are not set. Even if you were to insulate the K&N filter, you would still have turbulent air flow from the intake split.

The CAI housing you have is really nice, so put in a K&N filter that fits and see that you actually have more power. Your setup gives you better gas mileage, though. That'* a plus.

Witch one would be better i have both intake. i still need to the crome tube to get the intake away from the engine. and i would also have to (Buy or Make???) the Box if i used it. Is it possible to use the CAI with the box. Porting air from the fender.

I think you want to put your shiny CAI part inside a box. No need for that because it'* already good to go. If you want to build a box, put just an open filter into it. Also, that rubbery accordion tubing leading to the throttle body easily causes turbulent air flow and reduces your potential power. The best thing would be to get a metal pipe that'* slightly larger in diameter than the throttle body, and then take that straight to a filter. Whether the filter is in the housing you have now or inside a box as shown above doesn't really matter. I suggest keeping your current filter enclosure.

I used a 3" dryer hose to pull cold air from the front of the car in to the box.

why would his setup give him better gas mileage???

THis is my idea right now. The CAI in general gives more power, so im going ot use that. Im soign ot get a chrome pipe that goes from the throttel body to the intake. Im goign to but the intake in a box , keepign the hot engine air out. Also port air from the grill to the box for more cool air. Unless you think fender is better.

Dan thanks for all the Picture. I was wonderign where you got the stuff to make it. How much i would need. And if i could Make the box a lil bigger for the CAI i have instead of the K&N filter.
