My last speeding ticket (August 1st, '01) I was driving my 1992 SE. He clocked me at 117, but wrote me up for 99 in a 70 so I wouldn't lose my DL or go to court. Saved my ***. I didn't argue or anything and not losing my dl or having to go to court I wasn't about to get smart with him. Since then the same cop has caught me speeding (10-20 over), but he doesn't bother me, just say'* I should drop it down a notch or two whenever we see each other at a gas station or places like that. Cool cop if you ask me.

They are 108 is where there gov. 2 days ago at night I got my first speeding ticket, 82 in a 45. My friend and I were racing, he said that his Dodge Dy-nasty could keep up with my Bonneville, so we were turning down his road and no traffic so we both floored it and his house was like a mile away so we weren't doing this 10 miles or something, but I left him in the dust and we both pulled in his drive-way and I get out of my car and I see cop lights and the cop pulls in the drive-way and gives both of us tickets. He was clocking my friend since he was behind me the cop couldn't clock me, but he asked me if I was going over 85 since I was so far ahead and I told the truth and said I hit like 105mph, and we got tickets. Both for doing 82 in a 45, we have to go to court 5-5-03 in a month.

ouch!!
I hit 117 because of my old car'* computer not alway'* governing. It would let me go as high as it could until I took my foot off the pedal, but that only happened about 1 out of 10-15 times that I hit 109. The fastest I believe I ever had it was in the 130mph range.
Hard to tell though being the speedo only show 110.

Stylez

I got caught doin 80K, in a 50K school zone. The road is like a bloodly 2 lane highway too, it'* next to impossible not to speed. This is a route I drive everday, so from that day on, it'* been a new route! Just too hard not to speed there, and there'* always traps on that road.

Since my record was perfect he just let me go. That was quite the relief being at the age where tickets = massive insurance.

6-10 MPH, but not all the time. Last night I was pulled over for 72 in a 55. I was running late for my son'* T-Ball--wasn't paying attention to how fast I was going--until I saw the Sheriff Deputy comming toward me in the opposite direction. I slowed down to 55 but it was way too late for that. Lights came on, I pulled over, handed my DL, proof of insurance, and registration.

"Are you in a hurry?"

"I really wasn't paying much attention to how fast I was going. When I saw you comming I became distictly aware that I was doing about 70."

"Where are you headed?"

"My son'* T-Ball game."

"And where is that?"

"Gobles."

"When did it start?"

"6:00 O'clock", it is now 6:19 pm.

"Do you have any problems with your Drivers Licence, like driving with a suspended licence?"

"No. The last ticket I received was in 1991 or 1992."

"Okay, let me go check a few things out and I'll get back to you."

Ten minutes later...as he is handing back my documents, "You are already late. Don't make it any worse by getting in an accident. I'd hate to have to write up paper work for an accident. Take it easy."

"Thank you. I'll set my cruise"

And off I went. I was clearly deserving of a citation last night. I didn't try to talk my way out of it, and he let me go. I don't lable law enforcement agents as "cool" or "D***heads" based on whether they let me go or not. It is the attitude they have with you that counts. He was a "cool" sheriff because he asked questions and didn't act "rookie-though". He would have been cool even if he had given me a ticket.

Anyway, I tend to drive at a comfortable speed--usually 6-8 over based on my speedo. But my speedo is about three miles over at 30 mph. If the ratio is correct, that is about 6 over at 60, making my actual speed 54. Otherwise I run with traffic.

Default Need for Speed

I live and work in Alabama but my kids are in St. Louis so I make lots of weekend round trips. The Interstates are busy but moving fast. I usually average 10-15 over the limit. I don't own a detector and quite often blow past a speed trap. Don't know why, but I have never been stopped. Just lucky I guess.
I had a detector for one trip. Top of the line model, went off every mile of the 440 mile trip. I had raw nerves after what is usually a very relaxing trip. Got rid of the darn thing.
Best speeding story was at christmas a few years ago. Was tooling on down to see the family in LA (Lower Alabama) doing my standard 80 in a 70, when a little old couple in a Honda Accord blew by like I was standing still. Next followed about dozen cars all doing the same high speed.
I couldn't resist and tagged on the end. This went on for over an hour only slowing down for the occasional left lane hog. Every now and then the leader would change. I even took poll position for a while. Generally safe, no crazy maneuvers, gentle accels and decels. Probably the closest to a Cannonball run that I'll ever be in. What a rush!
