If it has a Visa or Mastercard logo (Discover and AmEx don't play yet, as far as I know), then it can be entered as a credit card. No PIN should be required.

Actually, that'* kinda of the point of them running them through Visa and Mastercard, so that as far as the retailer is concerned, it'* just another credit card.

that is my situation also. When I use the bank card it automatically pops up asking for pin #. I can get around that at Walgreens cuz Jeff works there and they have a different way they can run it but the folks at wally world aren't always so accomodating.

My dad'* actually been burned twice by this - luckily the bank caught it and notified us, and them being insured, we got the money back. The second time was more coincidence than anything... but anyway, the rule of thumb - use CASH at places like gas stations, or small shops. You should be good to go if at a major supermarket retailer, or the like. It'* easy to put card readers and PIN readers on smaller, dodgy businesses...
You are NOT NECESSARILY good to go anywhere. card readers are one issue. As you might imagine interactions between the machine where you enter the PIN and the bank are based heavily on software. There are cases where temporary files (which are encrypted) are being left on the networks that handle these transactions, and also information to decrypt this information is on the same network!!!

A lot depends on what type of software a company uses to process the transactions.
