how do i secure my wireless network?
o.k i just switched from rcn cable and internet to verizon.
so sadly i went from 10 megs to only 7 megs with verizon but rcn is a big headache and a bunch or crooks.. anyway how do i put a password on my wireless internet so no one can use my wireless signal.? thanks

look in the books for the router if you still have them.
there will be an IP address you type into your internet browser to get into the control panel for the router.
there should be a tab or button you press to setup your security, you'll probably be looking for something that talks about WEP encryption.
fallow the instructions and you'll be good. just MAKE SURE you remmeber that number, you'll need it for any wireless devices.
but if you still got the books, they'll give you good instructions on how.

uhm... there'* a tiny exe file called macmakeup.exe... all i have to do is connect to the network (which mac filtering allows you to do... it just doesnt allow connectivity)
then i can open a network sniffer, find your MAC address and change mine to what yours was.
presto, im in. Its really not very hard.
i would use a combination of WPA security, Mac filtering, along with not broadcasting the SSID

MOST situations don't call for extreme measures. Nothing is uncrackable. Not broadcasting and either a mac filter or wpa will keep you out of casual preying eyes

yeah, in reality the only people you are going to be blocking are those who live near you that want to get free internet and will end up slowing you down. there are those that will mess with you if they see an unsecured network but no matter what you do if they're good, they'll get in.
