XM satellite radio
i have directv, and like many digital TV services, it comes with music channels. Directv'* happen to correspond with XM satellite radio. I really like the selection of music it has, and i am now considering buying a small receiver (one of the ones that look like an MP3 player). However, subscriptions are rather expensive(for a college student), so what i'm asking is:
Does anyone here have XM? If so, do you like it, and would you recommend it?

i have it. i have the roady xt reciever which they dont make anymore. I like it because i can listen to the same station no matter where i go and it has more variety then cds and mp3s. I always got bored of the songs that were on them. I drive 45 minutes to school every morning and i rarely loose signal. Sometimes i do when its really cloudy but even then i just loose signal for a couple of seconds and then it comes back.

I've had the Roady XT and the Roady 2. Both of them I ended up getting about 9 months free because I kept calling and complaining. Music selection is great, much better than sirius IMO. However, the sound quality sounded as if I were listening to 96kbps internet audio. With the Infinitys and subs, you could really tell it was there.

For myself, I had it hardwired directly from the xm reciever to the auxiliary input on the back of the head unit. While I understand you won't get 100% quality with any broadcasted transmission, specifically one that bounces from a satellite orbiting the earth, I don't think my FM radio should have sounded better than the XM. The XM had the patchy tinny noise that you get in low bit rate internet radio, where as with FM radio, anything I sacrificed could be brought back with the EQ.

I agree with the sound quality. Just helped a friend install it in a jeep with a HU, and at least upgraded rear speakers, and it sounds not so cool. FM sounds better

I have it in two cars. My Lacrosse uses the factory head unit and my mom'* Mercedes uses the Skyfi 2 receiver. They both work great and sound wonderful.

i havent had any sound issues with mine, i use the tape but i dont use the one that came with the reciever. Whenever i use the tape that came with the reciever the sound quality is drastically reduced.
