well i went back to st paul yesterday, and bought the car.
threw a battery in it and it started right up, ended up not needing a starter. oil was 2 qts low, brake fluid empty.
filled oil, car started smoking lol. tightened valve cover bolts and it stopped, oil was dripping onto the manifold and smoke appeared.
filled brake fluid, it proceeded to disappear right away as the abs pump turned on. hit the brake pedal and the fluid went to the floor, looked around the car and the rear wheel was covered in brake fluid on the inside. the wheel cylinder blew up. so i had to stay overnight to wait for an autozone to open at 9am.
once i got that done, i headed back home with it and after 5 min on the road this cloud of smoke came out from behind the car. pulled over and found the ac compressor smoking. ALOT. theres a short in the auto climate controls somewhere so that when u turn the ign on it resets itself to 75f and trys to turn on the ac compressor and i guess it was on its last legs and decided to die right then and there. after that it stopped smoking i started it and it was rattling like a bitch but decided to drive it anyway.
270mi later the car blew out another huge cloud of smoke and then the power steering went out along with the alternator and water pump. pulled over and found the compressor smoking again even tho it wasnt even on and this time it was in pieces, the belt was on fire and melted and ripped to shreds along with the coolant boiling in the resivoir.
luckily i was less than 1/4mi away from a rest area so i started it back up, put it in d and floored it up the shoulder, i looked down and saw the temp gauge moving very quickly to the red zone so i threw it in neutral and killed the engine, not like i had power steering anyway so i coasted into the rest stop, parked the car and came home with my mom in her car. cuz well theres no auto parts stores on i94 in the middle of wisconsin.
so if anyone sees a grey bonneville tonight at a rest area in wisconsin parked alllllll the way to the side with illinois plates. thats my car
i gotta go get it tomorrow and throw on a smaller belt to bypass the ac compressor and at least get the damn thing home.
all in all i think this has been a very interesting $200 purchase so far
oh and i forgot to mention, it runs a little rough in the lower rpms (1k-2k) and the service engine soon light is on, but once its on the hwy man does it haul ***. turns into a completeley different car, the tranny also shifts GREAT! it has a gm powertrain rebuilt tranny sticker on it but damn 250k and it beats the hell outta my 183k black one in the driveway! i might just have it swapped into the black one
