Maybe switching to Ubuntu...
I want to try a new OS as I am getting pretty sick of XP. I read that Ubuntu is pretty user friendly, but I want to make sure it can do everything I want to do...namely still watch and burn DVDs, play MP3s, and open word and pdf files. (I will either go dual boot or get an external drive for the new OS btw)
Anybody use this OS? And if so, recommendations on what to tweek?

I used it for a bit, but being unfamiliar with Linux I got rid of it. Download the ISO, burn it, and it will allow you to boot to an evaluation copy. I really liked that feature! It'* also got a dual boot option built right into the install
It comes with a LOT of stuff in the "as is" install as well. And, it has drivers for almost everything built right in. I installed on my rather old Thinkpad, and it dfound every piece of equipment in it.
