squeaky floor
ok, I'll admit I'm pretty frustrated with this, but just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas that do work on homes and are handy. at our Condo there is a god aweful squeak/cracking noise that is in the floor RIGHT in front of the door just as you walk in. I went online and found some braces that are made to screw into the floor joist, and then into the subfloor. They say they're guaranteed to work.. I screwed THREE of these braces on the floor where the floor squeaks horribly and the squeak is STILL there! You can clearly see a gap about 2' long where the noise is coming from.. I even placed wood glue between the subfloor and the joist, and the noise just wont' go away. I cannot figure it out and I"m getting very frustrated. Before placing the brackets there, I see that someone else tried fixing the problem by shoving 8 wooden shims between the subfloor and the joist.. that obviously didn't fix the problem either! The only way I can get the noise to go away is to stand on the floor and press up on the floor joist as hard as I can, while someone walks across it. WHen I do this, the floor does NOT make any noise at all... I obviously cannot stand there all day pushing up on the floor joist. any ideas? It'* VERY annoying and makes a nice condo seem very cheap when the floor makes so much noise right as you walk in.. HELP!

get a tranny jack and jack up the floor joist?
Or while you hold up the joist have someone else pound shims into where it rests so that when you let go it sits higher.

Baby powder. no joke.
But....
If the screws/braces did catch the joist the problem should have gone away.
try to tighten them again.
did anybody drill and screw right through the loose floor boards, to the joist?
when doing so .counter sink and then fill in with wood fill.
but go ahead and try the baby powder thing, be generious, and let us know what happened.
