My girlfriend got a Gym Membership and got the one that you can bring a friend each time. I've been twice. My issue is not actually the motivation, it'* the location. She used to live 5 minutes from it, and it was great cause I could just head over there after work and meet her there. Well, she now moved 15 minutes further away, so it is not a 20-25 minute drive, and it is no longer on the way to anywhere that I go, so I don't go, although I should.
I would agree with getting a trainer, even if just for a couple times, to help you figure out a routine or two that you can then do on your own. probably will want an upper body, lower body and a mixed workout.
